What environmental modifications is your community putting into place to promote both pedestrian and driving safety?

I stumbled across this article as I was researching both pedestrian and driving safety. It is an interesting article on community mobility for older adults, but why the focus on changing the individual or correcting the aging process to meet the needs of the environment? Why not also analyze the environment’s impact on the residents, regardless of age or ability, and implement solutions that would meet shared interests and needs? Why not consider what services may be lacking to assist older adults, and other residents, with safe community mobility?

We are living in a rapidly aging society–community mobility for older adults is a current issue that is only poised to grow. Provision of services and/or modifying environments with multigenerational solutions not only can add a level of safety, but it is also sustainable for future generations.
