Greater Philadelphia Aging-in-Place Local Chapter

Over the Summer of 2009, I became a member of the National Aging in Place Council (NAIPC).  NAIPC is a senior support network and “was founded on the belief that an overwhelming majority of older Americans want to remain in their homes for as long as possible, but lack awareness of home and community-based services that make independent living possible.”

In the Fall of 2009, I founded the Greater Philadelphia local chapter.  The Greater Philadelphia Aging-in-Place local chapter is an extension of the National Aging in Place Council and is used to help individuals and companies connect and network to discuss seniors and the current services available to assist seniors in being more independent and age-in-place.  The chapter is a way to coordinate a group of local aging-in-place professionals to meet the needs of seniors in the area.  Among other responsibilities, the local chapter is also involved in setting up an event during Aging-In-Place Week (October of each year).  In order to be a part of the local chapter, membership with the National organization is required (NAIPC: www.ageinplace.org).

The chapter encompasses Delaware, Southeastern PA and South Jersey.  We hold monthly meetings and try to rotate the location to make it convenient to all members.   Even if you are currently not a member of the National Aging in Place Council (NAIPC), we encourage you to join us at one of our next meetings to check it out and see if you are interested in being a part of our group.  If you are interested in learning more about this group, please feel free to contact me!

I joined a new chapter here in Washington state with the NAIPC last October. It’s the Greater Seattle chapter and we’re growing rapidly. We have new members at each meeting and will have our first event in two weeks. It’s pretty exciting!
I also would encourage everyone to join or start your own local chapter if you don’t have one. It’s a great organization.
    Thanks,
    Joyce
